Just for a change somewhat lost for words again this month!
Where is this season going, we are already two thirds of the way through it and we are already thinking of the shows over the summer months.
Well, what a brilliant, very well attended meet, with over 40 drivers booked in, including a few people we haven’t seen recently returning and a couple of new first- time visitors.
It’s always good to catch up with our members, especially ones who can’t make every meet, and I appreciate the pressures on our lives and the impact this sometimes has, to find time to enjoy our hobbies on a regular basis.
As ever the standard of trucks and yards, never fails to amaze me and realise the huge amount of talent we have within the club and the fact that everyone is so keen to help other members with any issues they have or simply to share ideas.
It was great to see the bridge back again this meet, and that Allan and Pete’s work and continued fettling has paid off, although I believe there are a couple more tweaks to be made.
We have always had the aim to make yard space ‘active’ and that really adds interest to the layout, and certainly keeps our youngest member entertained, have many of you noticed his viewpoint in the middle of the layout, as he intently watched everything that was going on!
I noticed a lot of activity in the ‘quarry’ with a lot of drivers using it throughout the day.
After the few nice sunny days we had over the last week, the weather turned out to be a murky and dull day, and with the hall lights turned off allowed us to have a bit of a night run. It was great to see the trucks driving around the hall with their multi coloured LEDs glowing, some are certainly retina burners 😜.
As most of you are aware we have now relocated most of the layout item to on- site storage, as expected we had a few teething problems for our set up and teardown crews, but as usual they knocked down and cracked on and we got there. It was always going to be a learning curve, and we have taken on board a lot of things that will hopefully improve things next meet. Sorry for any delays caused to those of you arriving to set up your yards.
You may have noticed a lack of rubbish bins in the hall this meet? This was intentional. As we have pointed out before we are responsible for the removal of our rubbish from the hall at the end of the meet, and with changes to local authority recycling and waste collections, we simply have to look at ways of reducing the amount of waste and recycling we take from site to put in our personal domestic collections. Can I please ask that wherever possible you bring recyclable waste back to kitchen serving area, and non-recyclable waste into the bins near the door of the kitchen area, and please do not use the toilet bins for such waste, and wherever possible, please take your rubbish home with you.
Finally, we have had an amazing response to attend Devon Truck Show, we are now fully booked with a couple of people on the waiting list.
Now the challenge begins to design a layout to try to meet everyone’s yard requirements and an interesting spectacle for Truck Show visitors.
Once again, I would like to thank everyone for their continued support of the club, whether helping run the club, assisting with set up or teardown, or simply just coming to drive, watch or socialise!
