Welcome to our new monthly write-up on a featured yard.

Every month, we at the Committee will collectively decide on one of our members' yards to feature on our website.

The booking of yards has become very popular and the detail and planning that goes into them was so noticeable, that we decided a new feature was in order.

This month (February 2024) the feature kicks off with the yard designed and built by Brad Bradbury, Ollie & Rob Chalmers-Hunt.

The yard is instantly identified by its illuminated signage R.O.B Transport Services.

You will see from the photos that the yard is very detailed indeed.

Amongst its many components, it boasts:

  • Simulated concrete bollards actually formed from plaster of Paris.
  • 3D printed authentic ‘plastic’ fencing barriers.
  • The ingenious use of drinks vessels to make heavy external concrete bollards.
  • Spotlights feature all around the yard with generators below to give them power.
  • An old Tamiya trailer as a loading dock – did you spot that?
  • A Gatehouse with functioning traffic lights and a barrier powered by a remote key fob.
  • A Bruder container on legs as the obligatory ‘extra storage’.
  • An impressive lineup of parked vehicles, including a Screwfix box trailer, a Volvo heavy underlift wrecker, Scania low loader, Service van, and a couple of flatbed trucks.
  • Their ‘working theme’ (something we request with yard bookings) is that of a loading yard with Linde H40D forklift handling the loads.
  • A small breakdown scene completes this impressive array of detailing with a dumper truck being inspected.
  • Let's not overlook the impressive ‘lit’ signage on the yard perimeter which brings the trio of Rob, Ollie & Brad together.

This is the level of imagination and detail that can be achieved, and which contributes to the impressive layout that you all enjoy at West Country RC.
