Another great turnout on what must be one of the most important Sundays of the year.

This month we revealed Layout No. 15. It’s amazing to think we have created so many different layouts for the hall for the enjoyment of our members.
Over the last three meets, we have experimented with moving yards outside of the core outer oval of the layout. This move has been widely welcomed and we have received some great feedback, but we will probably rest this concept for a couple of meets now.

Our normal layout crew was somewhat diminished this month, but as always we made a Facebook post and our members answered the call. Thanks to the core layout crew and all the other members for their assistance with the setup and teardown.

The number of fantastic trucks and yards we had at today’s meet gives testament to the brilliant skills and ingenuity of our members.

Today, we had a great mix of working yards, from distribution centres and warehouses, to construction yards and even a showman’s winter quarters. The level of detail in some of these yards is phenomenal, from something as simple as a guy cutting the grass on his John Deere ride-on, or the comfy sofa in Ollie Chalmers-Hunt’s two storey yard office, and there’s always something different to see at the C&J Recovery yard!

To commemorate Remembrance Sunday, Derrick and Jack Hill created a fantastically poignant photographic area backed with tanks and remembrance symbols. At 11:00, we held our two minute silence to remember those who have given their lives in the great conflicts of the distant and not so distant past.

As with the yards, the expertise and skills of our members also show through with their truck and trailer builds. There are simply too many trucks and trailers to mention them all, but a few stood out for me today, Aaron’s Memorial Scania suitably adorned with poppies, Anthony’s Acros Gulf fuel tanker, Keith’s KB Towing wrecker, which looked awesome, and even better towing the Queen tribute rig. Allan B’s grey Volvo FH16 rigid with CAT engine load, Bruce’s green Volvo FH 16 wrecker, Paul’s Trucker Tim replica Scania 770.

As a Committee we strive to keep the meets fresh, with the ever changing layout, additions to the layout or trying new things.
We are always open to suggestions from our members.

As you are aware the club has a range of quarry equipment, and media, this is for general use of members, so when we were allocating yards this week, Harry Davis suggested a tipper ‘load and tip’ competition, several members took part in this challenge, with the winner being Bear Harper, who won the challenge with six return loads, and gets a free attendance at next month’s meet.

We switched off the lights and closed the blinds around 1:30pm and along with the dank weather outside, allowed our members to
‘Show their glow’, which is something we will do throughout the  winter months.

We noticed a number of members left quite early today, we are unsure as to whether these early departures were planned or as a result of the hall clock still showing British Summer Time! 🙄🙄
We have highlighted this, so hopefully it should be showing the correct time next month.

One of the aims of our Club is to provide members with build advice from their projects, and to provide a ‘forum’ where members can interact with each other for advice and ideas, it was great to see that happening again this month, with someone getting assistance with their rolling chassis, another with radio settings and someone else getting some livery advice for a trailer.

So as we look forward to our December meet, we best get planning, writing our shopping list for the food, getting our Christmas jumpers ready, hopefully confirming our guest to judge the Christmas yards and Trucks, and a host of other things as well!

The pictures!
