Another fantastic and busy meet today, with a lot of drivers booked in and great to see some new faces and trucks on the scene! We also had a good number of people signing up or renewing their Club membership, which gives Members discounted meet fees.

As you are aware we encourage suggestions of all kinds from Members to benefit the Club, this month we had a cracking suggestion from Amy, Teddy’s Mum about a Halloween themed meet. Thanks to all those that entered into the spirit of Halloween, by decorating your trucks and yards, great to see so many pumpkins and spiders lurking around and on the layout.

When Rob, Allan, Stu and myself set the Club up in 2021, we chose to set the Club up as a Company limited by guarantee with legally binding Article of Incorporation. The reason we chose this route was to ensure the Club has accountability to it’s Members, and to provide transparency around the running of the Club and it’s finances and the election of Officers. Therefore the October meet encompasses our AGM, whilst an important occasion, we always endeavour to keep this interuption of the day’s driving as short as possible.

The AGM comprises of the Chair’s Report, the Treasurer’s Report and any election of Officers.

Allan presented the Chair’s report on behalf of Rob Briggs, as he was on holiday, and Mandie presented the Treasurer’s report. I’m glad to say both reports show the Club continues to progress well and on sound financial footing.

You may be aware, that Rob Briggs wished to stand down as Chair.
We invited nominations via email
to fill this role, we only received one nomination for Paul Evans.
Paul’s nomination was seconded and he was duly elected, to replace Rob, thereby relinquishing his role as Vice Chair, that has now been taken over by Pete Gisborne.

As new Chair, I would like to thank Rob for his work as Chair over the last four years since the Club’s inception, and I will endeavour to continue to build on this success, with the help of the other Directors and Members of the Committee.

As we keep reiterating the Club belongs to you, it’s members, and as always we welcome your ideas and suggestions to develop the Club going forward, as well as any criticism where you may think we are not getting things right! So please let us know your suggestions or feedback by contacting any of the Committee members.

I would also like to thank Allan and Pete for their work on our new bridge………..yes we have identified a couple of teething problems, but the best technical brains in the Club have found the solution, so watch this space!

And as always the Club could not function without the help and assistance from a myriad of people, so thanks to the setup and teardown teams, the kitchen team aided and abetted by child labour this month, and finally to Rob Coombes for towing the trailer back and forth in Rob’s absence!

Looking around the hall I realise we have a fantastic amount of knowledge, and modelling skills amongst our members. The detail in the yards is constantly breaking boundaries. There’s always something different to see in the Moulsdale family’s C&J Recovery yard, even if it’s Pete Gisborne’s truck. I think Duncan & Barry Perryman win the prize for how many trucks, buildings and other items of detail in an 8’x8’ space. The Halloween themed yard from the Rees and Parfitt families was brilliant, with its own Pumpkin Patch and a huge spider about to pounce on an unsuspecting Scania R620!

As always there were some standout trucks, Graham’s stunning Heinrich’s Thermoliner, a brilliant copy of what has to be one of the most admired trucks in Europe! Maybe their latest truck could be next 🤔. The Pier (UK) Scania new gen T cab complete with low loader and excavator definitely looked the part. A beautiful Scania 8 legger with its tractor load, certainly turned a few heads. Spike’s Carson tipper ‘conversion’ to a double axle tipper, and removing the diagonal beams on the trailer sides, gave it a lovely clean look, and certainly got my interest. And finally, I’ve got to mention Teddy’s lovely 1:18 scale Scania and low loader complete with a gem of a forklift as a load……..smoking! Love the Big Mac on the dash and Teddy’s very own Wirtz branding!

All in all another fantastic meet, with plenty to see, and chat about.

Keep up the great work guys and gals!

Paul.
